NFL Combine

I'm not really a football guy. I've never even seen this guy play. But after watching Mark Ingram run through a few cone drills during the NFL Combine, I'd draft him first. This guy has to be legit. Just hearing him run scares me. Mark Ingram's grunts alone can break tackles.

  1. Alright, Justin. This post got me thinking: Where will Ingram go?

With regards to early-rounders, I think he could go to Buffalo or possibly Washington if they moved some depth (i.e. - releasing Clinton Portis). Both teams might have greater needs at other positions though, as the win-loss records for last season will indicate. So...

Could he fall as far as Indy? Gosh, despite injuries leading the Colts to become one of the weakest rushing attacks in the league, I don't think he'll go to Indianapolis.

New England has the 17th pick in the draft (from the Oakland Raiders). The team has managed well without a solid starter at running back, but it's been awhile since they've won a Superbowl too.

    Washington or New England.

Now that the rookie has spoken...Justin, your thoughts?

  2. Wait what? This guy is for real? I was just guessing. I should be an NFL scout.

  3. I am not a big believer in drafting running backs high in the draft, meaning in the top 10 to 15 picks. If you look at the worst teams in the league there are three area's that they may need to improve on, offensive line, defensive line and quarterback. Running backs are a dime a dozen, you open a good hole they should be able to run through it. Also, running backs tend to decline after about 6-8 years in the league while if you find a franchise quarterback or lets say left tackle you might get ten plus years out of the guy. Drafting in the NFL is all about value. Ingram is strong and is a great receiver out of the back field will have an impact, but I would rather seem him got to a team that is established already instead of being stuck lets say like Stephen Jackson on the Rams where he wasted all of his prime years on a poor Rams squad.

Buffalo won't pick him as they picked CJ Spiller last year, Washington is a possibility but only if Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert are both off of the board. Your Colts are getting older on defense and I always thought that they should try to get a great DT to go with Mathis and Freeney. The few years since they won a super bowl Freeney and Mathis have been averaging around ten plus sacks each without great inside pressure. Imagine if they had a Tommy Harris type of DT playing for them, he is a FA now by the way. I will have to agree with you that I think New England is a good fit, but don't be surprised if they go for a OT, or a WR. Its all really just a guessing game.

Thanks for the question Chris, it was very fun to answer.
